Professional Experience

John Wright, as President of John F. Wright, Inc., provides development management, construction management, and asset management services for the development, construction and maintenance of multifamily properties.  For the Alamo Area Mutual Housing Association, a San Antonio non-profit provider of affordable housing, John was responsible for overseeing the rehabilitation of 150 multifamily housing units and the new construction of 280 units.  He also performed construction management duties for 360 units built by three for-profit developers (one of which was Edgewater Affordable Housing) and managed the new construction of 250 units for Texas Regional Companies.

Prior to forming his own company, John served as Development Manager for the Gulf Coast Division of Trammell Crow Residential in Houston, Texas.  In that capacity he was responsible for coordinating all aspects of the development process, including programming, selection of the design team, development of the design, preparation of the construction documents, and permitting.  During the construction phase of the project, he provided coordination between Construction and Residential Services by assisting in the establishment of management requirements, establishing requirements and procedures for initial and incremental occupancy, coordinating the establishment of leasing and management systems, establishing acceptance procedures, and coordinating project closeout procedures.  Since August 1998, John has coordinated the completion of six projects containing 2,176 units, managed the design-through-completion phases of five projects containing 1,184 units, managed the design-through-start-of-construction phases of three projects containing 644 units, and coordinated the final stages of permitting for two projects containing 392 units.  During those projects he worked directly with the architects and engineers using a series of staff-approved project specifications and development checklists to assure that projects were on time and within budget. Earlier, as Project General Superintendent with Trammell Crow, John was responsible for the construction of a 309-unit four-story, high-density apartment community with two five-story steel and concrete parking garages.

John also served as Project engineer for the Actus-Sundt Group in San Antonio, Texas during construction of the Watkins Terrace subdivision, a housing development consisting of 250 single-family homes at Fort Sam Houston.

From 1990 through 1994 John served as President of Flato Realty Investment, Inc., also in San Antonio, managing the company’s day-to-day operations. From 1981 until 1990 he was Executive Vice President of Construction and Development for Flato. In that capacity he managed the re-development and renovation of five shopping centers and a 600,000-square-foot office building.

John has also served as Construction Manager and Superintendent for Dover Construction of Dallas, Texas, Construction Manager and Chairman of the Architectural Selection Committee for the United States Postal Service’s Southern Region, Project Architect in Aviation Planning for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and Architectural Designer for New York Architect Edward Durrell Stone.
